WRAP UP: Crankworx Rotorua Event Summary

Yakima joined the masses of super fans, rising stars, industry innovators and the next generation of mountain bike riders in Rotorua from the 25^th – 29^th March for the world’s premier mountain biking event.

DAY 1
The first day saw people of all ages step up to the Yakima Ping Pong challenge in return for some water bottles, t-shirts, socks and stickers!

That night the WHIPOFF champs took the event by storm with our very own Brand Advocate Connor Fearon coming in at 2^nd place.

DAY 2
On day two we received tonnes of interest in the HoldUp, Yakima’s fastest and easiest way to load bikes, and it was no wonder when so many people were rocking around with rack solutions like the ute below. They couldn’t believe how many awesome features there are to keep your bike in good condition and secured to your vehicle!

Yes that is a sheet hung over the back of the ute with 6, yes 6 bikes all touching each other.

The highlight of day two was the Mons Royale Speed and Style where two riders line up in the start gate to race the other to the bottom of the course over jumps, through berms and other features.

DAY 3
Day three brought the Downhill legends from around the world to the event with a crazy course full of expanding ruts and holes and we are proud to say that Connor Fearon reared his head again coming 5^th!

DAY 4
On day four, Yakima legends Sam Hill and Michael Ronning competed in the Enduro World Series opener, the Giant Toa Enduro which took place over seven stages in the dense Whakarewarewa forest and over the steep steps of the Skyline Gondola terrain.

On the final day rain almost scared everyone away before magically disappearing just in time for the finale of the event, the Red Bull Slopestyle, which in the end attracted 6000 fans. Kelly McGarry, a star of the show, is one of our greatest advocates and didn’t disappoint.

A big congratulations to Brett Rheeder who managed to get out alive and win the Slopestyle!

It was hard to leave the madness that was Crankworx Rotorua 2015 but we found comfort knowing that we can watch the live webcast for Crankworx Les 2 Alpes coming up on the 9^th – 12^th July and Crankworx Whistler on 7^th – 16^th August.
